About this course

Come learn about the world of consensual non-monogamy that so many of our therapy clients are already exploring. We need to shift our paradigm and lens from one we've internalized in a heteronormative, mononormative patriarchy to something different.

Whether we ourselves are monogamous, polyamorous or something else, we all need to examine our own biases in order to affirm our clients' potential joy. We need to unpack the systems, beliefs, and assumptions we've learned ourselves in order to fully show up with clients challenging those norms.

Let's unlearn and explore new liberatory possibilities together!

Learning Objectives

  • Understand several common relationship structures in the consensual non-monogamy (CNM) umbrella.
  • Identify 3 or more common challenges for couples opening up from monogamy.
  • Identify relationship orientation or lifestyle as one of a person’s intersecting identities and location.
  • Describe ways to affirm relational diversity with clients.

Course Instructor(s)

  • Molly Adler, LCSW, CST

    Molly is an AASECT certified Sex Therapist, Clinical Social Worker, Sex Educator and Trainer. Her practice Sex Therapy New Mexico is based in Albuquerque, New Mexico on Tiwa land. She works with a lot of clients who are LGBTQ2S+, BIPOC, anti-racist, activists, polyamorous, and/or kink identified. Her approach is compassionate, grounded, pleasure-centered, light-hearted & social justice oriented. She enjoys the micro-level therapeutic work, as well as working towards structural change by offering training for healthcare providers and institutions who want to be more inclusive of sexual and gender diversity in their work. Previously she co-founded and co-directed Self Serve Sexuality Resource Center, New Mexico’s first and only sex-positive, health- and education-focused adult shop and resource center for its first eight years.
